The women’s Illinois basketball team keeps building what is looking like a legendary recruiting class.
Over the years, the Illini have had a good, top-rated, recruit come into the program every once in a while. To stack talent in a recruiting class is rare, though.
With Shauna Green at the helm, things are changing. Not only has Illinois started to win again on the court, but our recruiting has hit another level as well.
On Saturday, Illinois continued to build the class of 2025. Dushawn London of 247Sports reported that Illinois has landed Cearah Parchment.
Parchment is a 6-foot-2 forward from Fort Erie International Academy in Canada. She is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 39 player in the class of 2025.
This is a great get by Illinois. Parchment has great size, but she isn’t a lumbering paint player. She has solid handles for her size, and her passing ability is impressive. Parchment can play multiple roles on the court, as she can hit shots from all levels on the court. Illinois just landed an extremely versatile forward.
What is crazy about the Illini is the fact that I thought landing five-star Berry Wallace in the class of 2024 was the pinnacle of the recruiting prowess. That isn’t the case at all. Not only is Wallace in the program, but the class of 2025 is looking to be even stronger.
Just over a month ago, Illinois was able to land another five-star recruit. Destiney Jackson, out of Whitney Young High School in Chicago, pledged her commitment. She is the No. 26 player in the class of 2025.
Now the Illini have Parchment, the No. 39 player, coming into the program. Two top-40 commitments are something I never thought would happen for the Orange and Blue. Just a few years ago, I was just hoping for 15 wins. Illinois is now an NCAA tournament-caliber program that has landed some of the top recruits in the country. Crazy.
