Idiomatic, last year’s champion older dirt female, moved up in the latest Thoroughbred rankings from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.
Trained by Brad Cox, the 5-year-old mare led all the way and won the Grade 1 Spinster at Keeneland on Saturday by 6 1/2 lengths.
That elevated her to the no. 3 spot in the latest rankings from no. 7 last week.
Idiomatic has been on a first-second pattern since her victory last year in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. She opened the year with a win in the La Troienne (G1), then was second in the Ogden Phipps (G1). She won the Molly Pitcher (G3) then was second in the Personal Ensign (G1) before the Spinster.
Fierceness and Thorpedo Anna retained the 1 and 2 spots.
Carl Spackler moved into the top 10 after his win in the Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland. It was his third straight graded-stakes victory.
Voting for the NTRA top Thoroughbred poll. Voting is conducted by national media.
The poll represents horses competing for horse of the year and concludes on Tuesday, Nov. 5, after the Breeders’ Cup.
