Five weeks into the season, NFL Draft expectations are shifting, with Colorado Buffs Travis Hunter in the race for top prospect in the 2025 draft. His recent claim may have sparked a rivalry with fellow top draft prospect Shedeur Sanders. Let’s see what the fuss is all about.
In an episode of Kickin It With Dee, Travis Hunter, a dual-threat player, expressed his desire to be the top NFL draft pick for 2025.Hunter said, “But you know, man, I want to be the first pick. I never dreamed of it until a couple of years ago, when I knew I had a chance to become the first pick. So that’s been my main goal—I just want to be the first pick. I don’t care where it’s at; just get me there, man.” Hunter’s comment may not align with Shedeur Sanders, as he also has a desire to be a top pick and is considered one.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay has favored Shedeur Sanders over Carson Beck as the top pick for next year’s NFL draft, following Georgia’s loss against Alabama. “Just keep an eye on how hard Carson Beck’s receivers have to work for the football too often. His erratic ball placement continues to be an issue. From a scouting standpoint, it’s the biggest difference when comparing him to Shedeur Sanders.” Todd said.
ESPN NFL draft expert Mel Kiper has named Travis Hunter as his top contender, stating that he is his absolute pick. “He has been No. 1 on my Big Board all season, and he’s not going anywhere. The hand-eye coordination, ball skills, and quickness are all outstanding. And the way he thinks about the game continues to catch my attention,” Kiper said.
Shedeur Sanders, a former NFL draft pick, has always admired Travis Hunter for his exceptional gameplay, even mentioning him as the best player in college football in a recent episode of his 2Legendary podcast. “I feel like Trav deserves it. He is the best player in college football. Not one of the best; he is the best player in college football,” Shedeur Sanders said in the context of Travis Hunter’s recent interception and hitting the Heisman Pose against the UCF Knights.
Shedeur stated that Hunter is frequently questioned about his two-way game abilities, but he denies any such beliefs. He said, “I think a lot of people take for granted what he’s been able to do. A lot of people tell him what he can’t do. He has greatness in him, and each and every game he’s able to showcase it in different ways.”
