Arne Slot cut a happy figure as his Liverpool side moved 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Liverpool boss talked about how that early set piece worked a treat:
💬 “We looked at how to set our base and in this situation, someone not me, came up with the play. So we trained it yesterday and because of a deflection, it went into the back of the net. That was so helpful because we were not dominating the game at this stage.
“In a big game like this, you want to try and score from a set piece and not concede, and that is what we did. We defended really well, with a lot of players because you know when you come here you have to do that against a team like this. They will have ball possession, but you have to try and limit the chances they normally would have.
“The first half was better for them except for the score. They were dominating in the first half, I felt that they could score at any moment because we weren’t really comfortable in possession. At half-time we talked about what we wanted the players to do, and in the second I cannot remember them having a big chance.”
