It could be worth giving another chance to PATROL, who did well when a close third in a race that wasn’t run to suit him last time. The unexposed Crest Of Light and Kempton winner Mr Ubiquitous are two others with a chance in what looks an open race.
Ghaihaban finally got off the mark last time, but it seems likely she will need to progress again on this handicap debut. The vote goes to ENOLA GREY who has nothing to prove under the conditions and is still off the same mark as when winning over C&D back in March. Triumph Of Peace is closely matched with the selection on their meeting here last month and can provide the biggest danger provided her stamina holds out.
C&D winner Night Bear could go well if ready to roll after six months off, while the consistent Have You A Minute is another for the shortlist. Last year’s runner-up Sid’s Annie could be interesting if coming on from last month’s return from a long absence, but FAST FRED is taken to complete the four-timer with his latest success suggesting he hasn’t reached his ceiling just yet.
If he can break better than he has been lately Bedford Flyer has dropped to a mark he can be competetitive from, but KYLIAN did it well when making it 2-2 on the AW at Newcastle last month and gave the impression there was more to come. Equilateral finished over 3l behind him there, but is 9lb better off so he could well figure.
Bulldog Spirit would be a serious contender if returning to the form of his Haydock success in August, while Weddell Sea should go well despite his poor strike-rate given that he has run well in both AW starts this autumn. The unexposed 3yo Arc Zoosve is feared back over this trip, but this may be the day SWINGING LONDON records a belated second success having run so well in defeat in his latest outings.
There was a lot to like about JOSEPH‘s debut at Newcastle. That run just about sets the standard and he’s open to as much improvement as the rest of these. Tremolo appeals the next-best option on the back of a good run over C&D. Nad Alshiba Rain, Mystery Of Love and War Supremo should have improvement in them.
War Hawk showed plenty on his debut at Newcastle in October but he didn’t repeat it next time at Chelmsford. Hidden Secret improved on his initial outing when fourth at Newmarket in October and is second choice behind debutant DAMYSUS, a 460,000gns yearling who can get off to a winning start for the Gosdens.
Charlie Mason has dropped to a favourable mark and is one to consider, as is the three-time C&D winner Turbo Command. Wilde And Dandy and Spartan Fighter are others for the shortlist, but IZZARI suddenly took off when winning a better race in good style at Newcastle a week ago and may still have more to offer.
El Hibri is high on the list now back off his last winning mark, while Phoenix Beach, Inanna and Bellagio Man are also worth a second look. However, the vote goes to KATS BOB (NAP) who is 5lb lower than when winning over C&D in January and who has been gradually returning to form at Newcastle recently.
