Henry de Bromhead holds a strong hand here with KOKTAIL DIVIN (nap) and Quantum Quest but the preference is for the former on the strength of his C&D effort behind Kaid d’Authie in December. Arabian Diamond, Zillow and Champagne Kid complete the shortlist.
This is a good opportunity for QUALIMITA who has run five times since fetching an eye-watering €500,000 in April 2023 after a runaway point-to-point win. She was a respectable third in a handicap at this venue last month, and can put her hurdling experience to good use ahead of Barnahash Primrose, who has superior bumper credentials, but has to bounce back after a disappointing hurdling debut at Limerick. Full Of Life and Glens Lullaby are placed possibilities.
Clonmel winner Mount Shenshan has to be considered, but the drying track may be a concern. Goodie Girl was still in with a placed chance when falling at Fairyhouse and should go well again if granted a clear round of jumping. Slim Marvel is also considered, but the preference is for BACKFROMTHERACES. She shaped with real promise in her first two handicaps and this trip may suit as she had a valid excuse for a disappointing run at Down Royal. Misty Milan is another to note.
It is hard to look beyond MONEY HEIST, whose hurdles mark is very appealing in the context of his recent form over fences. On recent evidence, Sammy Smart and John Storey are most likely to test him. Weather Alert boasts useful form on the Flat and is worth considering in his first handicap.
A few of these have questions to answer. MAJESTIC FORCE probably would have won on her chasing debut at Cork only for a late mistake and this looks a good chance to make amends, though she needs to leave her last run at Naas well behind dropping in trip. Lisnagar Fortune has the best hurdles form, but he hasn’t replicated that in his first two chases. Gavin Cromwell’s debutant Aeros Rock and the experienced Maidenstreetprince could be the biggest dangers.
Shane Broderick can pick up a race with the former Joseph O’Brien-trained A WAVE OF THE SEA after a lively effort at Navan in December. Last-time-out winner Clonbury Bridge is a likely danger, along with Prince Zaltar, who should be able to uphold recent form with Baldur’s Gate.
Willie Mullins won this last year and he looks to hold a strong hand again with Sugar Cookie, who is preferred by Patrick Mullins, and Hello Jean. Champagne Venture has placed claims, as do Arctic Flame and Jem’s Lily. However, a chance is taken on well-bred debutante MOON ECLIPSE who is related to bumper winners at a yard with a 26% strike rate in Irish bumpers in the last five seasons.
