This ought to be a doddle for DIAMONDS FOR LUCK, who has won twice over 2m this winter and is likely to be suited by today’s longer trip. Manala was second in a bumper in 2023 but has made a quiet start to his hurdling career this year.
This looks good for GRENADIER JED (NAP), who was an emphatic C&D winner on his recent handicap debut and may still have significant further improvement to come. Babatunde was safely held when dropped back to 2m3f at Chepstow recently but may yet build upon the promise he showed over 3m here two starts ago. Rip Wheeler and Colonel Whizz also have possibilities.
Good Friday Fairy looked in rude health at Wincanton 12 days ago and is not opposed lightly, but dual course winner HEROS is on a good mark and gets the nod in the hope he’s back in peak form for this third run of the season. Gyenyame is well handicapped on 2023 hurdling form, but his record over fences is unconvincing, and he needs to be perked up by the first-time blinkers.
Salley Gardens seems likely to give another good account and be on the premises, but BADBURY RINGS has made very good progress in recent weeks and seemed to have a fair bit left in the tank when winning at Wincanton 12 days ago. He can overcome a 9lb rise here. Longshanks and Drash On Ruby are others to consider.
Space Voyage produced a good performance at Huntingdon last month and remains unexposed over fences, but she has been very inconsistent in recent years and preference is for SO SAID I. Joe Tizzard’s mare was unsuited by a marathon trip on her latest outing but was placed three consecutive times beforehand and is sure to appreciate today’s ease in grade.
Bumper winners Tennessee Tango and Blue Carpet (preferred in that order) both have obvious claims, while Irish point winner Purple Owl is related to a useful Flat racer and looks a good candidate for this type of race. However, the suggestion is SINCHI ROCA, who won a Larkhill point by 5l on his debut, beating a rival who has since been placed twice over hurdles.
