This may mainly concern a couple of multiple C&D winners, both of whom were successful here last week. Busby won well on Monday, but that was a 0-50 classified event so CITY ESCAPE is preferred following her success in a 0-58 handicap the following day. Recent Southwell winner Brinton looks best of the others.
Khangai is respected back under these conditions down slightly in grade, having won three times over this trip on Tapeta since November. Mirabello Bay is another for the shortlist having dropped 3lb lower than for the latest of his two C&D wins, but the vote goes to VIRTUAL HUG who is lower in the weights than when twice winning over C&D early last year and who went close off this mark in January.
Bloodhound is respected off the same mark as when runner-up last time, as is National Health who has been running consistently well lately, albeit in lower grade. Market support for the 2022 winner Avarice would be interesting, but COME ON JOHN looks a safer option having been mainly consistent since his last win. He is off the same mark as when a close second six days ago.
Aviano is worth monitoring in the market on debut, as is last year’s Windsor winner Preanka now having her first start for Stuart Williams after six months off. However, this may lie between two fillies who finished third in separate divisions of a Kempton maiden 12 days ago. Wise Stars was beaten less than a length in her leg and is respected after such a promising start, but even though she was beaten further in the other division MAGNA GRECIA STAR is preferred, given that the time of her race was much the quicker.
Bazball has dropped to an enticing mark and could go close if building on her latest Newcastle effort, while dual C&D winner Kensington Agent is also respected having gone close on her return from a break here last month. However, the vote goes to fellow dual C&D scorer AUTUMN ANGEL who is 2lb lower than when beaten a neck back here last Tuesday.
Tilsworth Ony Ta has enjoyed more success on Polytrack in his career, but he has twice run well since returned to this level and he makes more appeal than many. Kapparis Kid has possibilities if maintaining his recent form for his new yard, while Lynwood Lad and Midnightattheoasis are others for the shortlist. However, preference is for ROGUE THUNDER (nap) who has been running well in handicaps over C&D in recent months (including a win) and drops into a 0-50 contest for the very first time.
This may be fought out between the trio with an official rating right on the race ceiling. Dual C&D winner Second Collection is respected while Star Of Atlantis (1-1 at this level) also holds solid claims, but the vote goes to NORDIC GLORY who ran well to finish third from the outside stall in a handicap here a fortnight ago. This is his first venture into 0-50 company.
Roman Emperor showed much more when beaten a neck at Kempton last time and is respected if building on that, while four-time C&D winner Arlecchino’s Gift comes into this off the back of a success at the same track. COLLUSION got off the mark when beating Alafdhal by just over a length over C&D in January and although the runner-up is 6lb better off, the selection is much the least exposed of the pair, so can confirm the placings.
Gustav Graves is more than capable of making it course win number seven if things pan out right, but that’s hard to predict so preference is for stablemate BURABACK who also knows his way around here and will find this easier than when third in a Class 4 at Chelmsford nine days ago. Nelson Gay, Basholo and Beaumadier complete the shortlist.
