The Actor’s Newmarket win has worked out well but he has been disappointing in the main since, and preference is for STORM FREE who seemed to have learned a lot from his debut when runner-up last month and can progress further with that second run under his belt. C&D winner Pink Diesel is second choice, while newcomer Ottawa is bred to be smart and should be monitored in the market.
Prince Of Bel Lir is of interest after running well at Wolverhampton last week but SHAMARDIA might be the answer. She had been on the up over this trip prior to a disappointing run at Wolverhampton last time where she had several valid excuses.
Beauzon and Southbank need monitoring in the market as both have slipped down the weights and a revival could be around the corner. They would appeal more at 6f though and this may be best left to CABEZA DE LLAVE and It’s Showtime. Marginal preference is for the top weight, who did well to get up late here last week.
Al Ameed didn’t look straightforward at Kempton two weeks ago and this may be best left to SALAMANCA. An absence since May isn’t ideal but a repeat of his Newmarket second in April would make him extremely difficult to beat. User Amistoso might be the one to chase him home.
Preference is for THE BITTER MOOSE who has a solid AW record, remains on a workable mark and looks worth a crack at this new trip. Sonmarg, who earns points for consistency, is second choice ahead of course winners Cloud Free and Palazzo Persico.
The potential seems to rest almost solely with ALTANERA (nap), who took the step up to 1m6f in her stride on the Wolverhampton Tapeta on Monday. 2m now looks within range. The most solid place option appears to be Sir Joseph Swan.
Attractively treated BOBBY DASSLER is taken to build on his Brighton effort and record a first AW success. Meng Tian (second choice) and Edmund Ironside are other favourably handicapped contenders, while Guildford looks best of the 3yos on bare form.
Profitman looks sure to go well if reproducing his best form in first-time cheekpieces while Cogsworth (second choice) has plenty to recommend him back over C&D. Marginal preference is for BATAL DANDY, though, given how well he coped with his first 7f run on Polytrack when winning at Kempton recently. Velvet Vortex is also worth a look on his handicap debut.
