There are plenty of horses in here with questions to answer and Shutupshirley deserves a mention but I’m concerned about a potential bounce after his win at Fontwell at Christmas. Haiti Couleurs for Rebecca Curtis carries top weight but will handle the conditions and this ground could be heavy on Saturday. He’s got a lot of weight but I’d like to be on him.
Leau Du Sud is a short-priced favourite for the Skelton’s and it’s very hard to look past him. He’s a very good jumper and he’ll love this track.
Paul Nicholls has stuck a tongue tie on Bravemansgame in hope that will help him. The ground will be the key here and Bravemansgame is the worthy favourite and he may be the most likely to win.
I’m siding with Nicholls’ other runner Hitman, who has a lot of second places to his name. I feel this could be his chance. I’ll take a chance on him to get his head in front as he handles conditions and if he repeats his run in this race last year, it could be enough to get the job done.
This race is known for throwing up a surprise now and then! Gala Marceau was very keen last year when running at Doncaster over two miles. There’s a bit of pace and if Gala Marceau settles behind a couple of frontrunners, she’s the one to be on as she’s got a bit in hand. Royale Margaux can run well at a big price for Tom Symonds. She’ll be ridden to come home and she will. She can finish second and I’d have been more bullish on her if there were eight runners.
We don’t have Sir Gino in here anymore which leaves us with a funny race so I’m going to take a punt on Libberty Hunter for Evan Williams. Edwardstone and JPR One are giving weight away to Libberty Hunter. He’s a strong finisher and that’s going to be the key in this race. He can finish stronger than Matata.
It looks like Fugitif is going to Newbury and if that’s the case then this is the perfect opportunity for Le Milos. The track will suit him and Editeur Du Gite will go a gallop which will help.
The more I go back and watch Secret Squirrel’s win at Windsor last time, the more I see the fact that Nico De Boinville never even went for his stick. He’s only up 5lbs for that win and he won’t mind conditions. He’s still well handicapped off a mark of 131 so he gets the nod. Nicky Henderson’s filly Joyeuse is also a big player while Iberico Lord could be a big-price each-way shout.
