Mirsky seems a pretty obvious selection in my eyes. David O’Meara’s runner impressed at York last time out and that form has held up. The penny has dropped for him and if he can reproduce his York run, he’ll be right there.
Annaf stood out when I first priced up this race but I’ve gone off him now! I’m looking elsewhere and I’m on Democracy Dilemma. He has plenty of speed and he beat Albasheer last time out. It’s not a strong shout though.
I priced this race up antepost and Phantom Flight stood out. I made him favourite and I am sticking with him. He beat Al Aasy at Newbury in July and the form was reversed at Goodwood but Phantom Flight didn’t enjoy the step up in trip to 1m4f. He was second to See The Fire last time out and I’m hoping the drop in grade will suit.
Since being gelded at the start of the season, Lieber Power has form figures of 1-2-1-2-2 and has enjoyed stepping up in trip. He ran a cracker from the back of the field last time out but just failed to get there when finishing second. Going up to 1m5f will suit him and he’s a decent price.
I’m siding with Summerghand, who is a former Ayr Gold Cup winner. He’s now running off a mark of 89 and he’s shown flashes of class. He ran well at the Curragh last time out to finish sixth. If there’s a strong pace, he can go close. He’s 10 years old and he may be regressing but I’ll stick with David O’Meara’s runner.
I’m a fan of Flying Frontier but I thought he was too keen in the Racing League at Yarmouth in July. I’m with Whip Cracker for Richard Hughes with Ryan Moore on board. On breeding, he should progress with age. He’ll do me!
I’m definitely against Powerful Glory and I’m on Shadow Of Light. He has a higher ceiling than all of these. He handled the step up in class last time out. He should develop throughout the season and he has the gears to win this. He could end up running over longer distances in the future nd is my best bet on the card.
Paddy’s got 6 places on offer in the Ayr Gold Cup and you’ll need all of them! I’ve landed on Mostabshir for John & Thady Gosden. The Goodwood track didn’t suit him last time but he still finished fourth. He’s trying 6f at Ayr now and the stamina test and fast pace can play to his strengths. I can see him closing late. He’s usually held up and he can finish strongly to hopefully take it on the line.
