Two area players received their second nods as district player of the year with the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announcing the 2024-25 Northeast Lakes District boys basketball teams on Feb. 28.
Seniors Quinn Kwasniak of Cornerstone Christian and Dorian Jones of Richmond Heights were two of the four area players who took home the top honors in their divisions.
The teams were voted on by media members in the Northeast Lakes District. This is the first step in the All-Ohio process. The honors are based on regular season performances alone.

Kwasniak won the honor for the second straight season, this year as a part of Division VII, as he led all of Northeast Ohio with 37.6 points per game and is one of three players in state history to reach over 3,000 points in his career.
He also averages 8.5 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 2.1 steals. The Patriots also had coach Babe Kwasniak earn coach of the year in D-VII as they went 14-8 and earned the top seed in the division.
Jones won his first Northeast Lakes District player of the year honors as a sophomore, the same season he won the Clark Kellogg Award. This year, he split the Division V award with Lutheran East junior TJ Crumble.
Jones is averaging 17 points with 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals as the Spartans are on the prowl for a fourth straight state championship. While he missed some time this season due to illness, Richmond Heights has found another level offensively, beating Buchtel, St. Edward and Akron SVSM down the stretch.
Connor Hernan of NDCL shared player of the year honors in Division IV with Jefferson Area’s Anthony Covetta.
Hernan averaged a double-double for the Lions with 17.2 points and 11.1 rebounds to go with a blocked shot per game as well. The Lions are in the district final round for the second year in a row.
With a win over Firelands in a district semifinal, NDCL also set the school record for wins in a season with 16.
Euclid senior Thai Duncan is the fourth area player of the year winner in Division II. Duncan was second in the coverage area in points per game with 27.
Duncan surpassed the 1,000-point mark this season. The Panthers finished with an 8-15 record, but of the 15 losses, half were by 10 points or fewer.
