Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders were unphased as they trailed the Philadelphia Eagles by 14 points after seven minutes, despite Jalen Hurts’ concussion, and faced a 13-point deficit into the fourth quarter. Daniels scored his fifth touchdown pass of the game, bringing the Commanders to a 36-33 comeback victory against the Eagles. The touchdown ended the Eagles’ 10-game winning streak and was his fifth of the game, as it prevented Philadelphia from celebrating an NFC East championship.
Despite being down by several scores and accumulating five turnovers against the Philadelphia Eagles, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders didn’t blink an eye after throwing the late fourth-quarter interception which proved to be a valuable quarterback in this game as he spearheaded the scoring for his team with three touchdown passes in the last quarter. The game winner was also his, but he concluded the game by throwing five touchdown passes.
Daniels was inquired about the Commanders’ ability to regain momentum after a significant loss. “No, not at all,” Daniels bluntly replied. “I love those type of situations,” Daniels said. “When it’s on thin ice and plays need to be made, that’s what you live for, if you really love this sport, you live for those big-time moments where it comes down to the end.”
Daniels’s confidence is evident in his performances, from out-dueling Joe Burrow in Cincinnati to throwing a miraculous Hail Mary against the Chicago Bears. His fearless play has helped the Commanders move closer to clinching a playoff berth and facing the best teams in the league this January. Doubt is not a part of his vernacular. “[Dan Quinn] talked about this all week,” Daniels told Pam Oliver. “We want to be one of the heavy hitters, we gotta beat the top dogs.”
Daniels became the first quarterback to throw for five touchdowns since 1991, the team’s most recent Super Bowl-winning season, with former MVP Mark Rypien in attendance for Sunday’s game. Daniels scored a 57-yard touchdown drive against the NFL’s best defense, overcoming two interceptions and one in the final minutes, putting Washington (10-5) on the verge of making the playoffs.

The Eagles, despite running for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter, failed to secure a division win and one of the conference’s top two seeds. Daniels led Washington to a month-long victory over the Eagles, completing 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards, including touchdowns to Crowder and Zaccheaus, and one to Terry McLaurin. He also ended up as Washington’s leading rusher with 81 yards on nine carries, the first rookie quarterback to attain five touchdowns and 65 yards in a single game in NFL history.
