NBA and especially Philadelphia 76ers fans love poking fun at former No. 1 pick Ben Simmons.
Monday was media day for the majority of teams around the league, including Simmons’ Brooklyn Nets. One user recapped the 28-year-old’s comments at the event to perfection, writing, “BEN STOP GIVING US AMMO.”
The former Sixers guard is regularly criticized for his drama-filled seasons and inability to stay healthy. Still, Simmons praised himself on media day, leading to a ton of reactions on social media.
“I think people forget me as a player when I’m healthy,” Simmons said. “I’m pretty good right?”
He played just 57 games over the last three seasons, so yes, it’s quite easy to forget Simmons’ peak with the 76ers. 2020 was arguably his best campaign, averaging 16.4 points, 8 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.1 steals on 58 percent shooting.
“the way ben simmons has finnessed the nba needs to be studied,” one comment said.
“Ben seen his contract is running out,” another wrote.
Simmons is entering the final season of his nearly $180 million contract, leaving his future a total mystery. It’s hard to imagine any team agreeing to significant terms with the three-time All-Star.
“I’m not that bad at basketball. I’m 14th all-time in triple-doubles,” Simmons shared. “It’s not too bad. But I think I got some more in me.”
While Simmons mentions a valid point in his triple-double mark, only one has taken place with the Nets. The other 32 occurred during his time with the Sixers. Fans wasted no time pointing this out, writing, “Most of that happened like 4 years ago.”
