Charlotte Duncker, football writer from The Times, has been discussing Manchester United’s summer transfer business ahead of an expected deal to sign midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking on the Football Daily podcast, Duncker said that despite United’s links with interest in Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling and a number of other players, she expects that the Red Devils’ summer of spending is now over.
“I would imagine so,” said Duncker when asked if that was it for Manchester United’s summer spending.
“They’ve been linked with a lot of
strikers but having spent £190m, obviously the Scott McTominay sale helps with
the PSR sanctions but I can’t imagine they would go out and get a striker now
given the calibre of striker they would want to improve their front line, how
much they would cost them.
“I would imagine once this deal is done, we might some
more outgoings in terms of fringe players, players like Victor Lindelof who is
carrying an injury which makes it difficult to get rid of, but he’s surplus to
requirements.
“There’s a couple of players that they can look to move it, but I
suspect that’s the last one coming in.”
