The Philadelphia Flyers‘ rookie camp is in full swing, and fans have been eagerly keeping up with the top young talent as preseason activities kick into gear.
Two names that have been generating quite a bit of buzz (rather unsurprisingly) are Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko, who have created enough noise of their own this offseason, but now look to be joining forces as the Flyers test them out on a line together.
Michkov has been the big draw for this camp, already putting his creativity and vision on full display, earning praise from coaches and teammates alike.
Luchanko has continued capitalizing on his successful preseason with the Guelph Storm, treating fans to some of his signature skating speed, along with some intelligent playmaking skills and some ambitious work in front of the net.
While their individual performances have left onlookers dazzled, a promising chemistry has begun to form between the two forwards that will undoubtedly be something the organization will want to keep an eye on.
They really showed their stuff during the Flyers’ first Rookie Series game against the New York Rangers prospects on Friday, where the pair’s skills were the clear standouts on the ice.
In addition to the expected talents—Luchanko’s speed and Michkov’s trickiness—they proved that they can read the game extremely well and make intelligent plays under any kind of circumstance. Quick thinking and a mature positional awareness helped make the Flyers look dangerous in front of the net, and there was no doubt that Michkov and Luchanko were the nuclei of that offensive venom.
While Michkov will be headed straight to the Flyers’ NHL roster, and Luchanko is expected to head back to the OHL to continue developing his game, putting these two on a line together is already proving to be a stroke of genius that produces some truly electric offense in the years to come.
