Fierceness and Thorpedo Anna were in much the same situation in the latest top Thoroughbred poll as they were in Saturday’s Grade 1 Travers, with Fierceness no. 1 and Thorpedo Anna just behind in second.
Both had 285 votes in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll, but Fierceness received 11 first-place votes to Thorpedo Anna’s nine. The Todd Pletcher-trained colt jumped in the rankings from no. 9 last week, and Kenny McPeek’s filly slipped from no. 1.
The top 10 in the poll remained the same, although the order had a few other differences. For example, Señor Buscador, who was fourth Saturday in the Pat O’Brien (G2), moved to no. 6 from second place. And Dornoch, fourth in the Travers, went to no. 8 from third.
The NTRA top Thoroughbred poll is conducted by the NTRA, and the current poll covers racing performances through Sunday. Voting is conducted by national media.
Rankings are on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-1 basis with first-place votes in parentheses, 2024 record and total points.
