On Monday, On3.com reported that Darryn Peterson – one of the top basketball prospects in the 2025 class – would be making his college decision on Nov. 1.
Peterson, who is ranked as the top player in California and the No. 3 overall recruit according to Rivals.com, has long been a top target of Bill Self and the Kansas coaching staff.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Prolific Prep High School in Napa, California, is known for his incredible scoring ability. He averaged 23.1 points and 9.1 rebounds playing at Huntington Prep in West Virginia last year.
His list of finalists includes KU, K-State, Ohio State, and USC, but recruiting experts seem to think Kansas is the heavy favorite.
Since Monday, the Jayhawks have picked up four FutureCast picks from various Rivals recruiting experts and publishers. KU has also picked up two Crystal Ball selections from a pair of 247sports experts.
KU currently has zero 2025 recruits committed, so landing Peterson would be a big kickstart to the 2025 class. It would also be an important backfill to a Kansas roster that is likely to lose a lot of talent from the upperclassmen-heavy roster they have for this season.
Look for more details about the time and place of Peterson’s announcement in the coming weeks.
