Walsall fans have been sitting comfortably at the top for a while now, but without a win in four league games and missing top scorer Nathan Lowe, they might be starting to get nervous.
Six points separate them from second placed Notts County, while they are 11 points clear of Crewe Alexandra in eighth.
The Saddlers’ automatic promotion spot is by no means guaranteed – though they will have a chance to stop the rot against a team also going through a rough spell.
Gillingham haven’t won a game since mid-December and, despite a strong start to the season, are all the way back in 19th place.
The Gills visit Bescot Stadium on Tuesday (19:45 GMT) while Walsall’s closest competitors, Notts, close out the week on Thursday (20:00 GMT) away at sixth-placed Port Vale.
Vale are unbeaten in the league in 2025 and Notts haven’t lost since their New Year’s Day defeat at the hands of the league leaders.
You can follow all the EFL action live on the BBC Sport website with all three leagues kicking off from 11 February at 19:45 GMT.
