The Giants didn’t look like a team that was capable or interested in winning football games for the majority of their 11-game losing streak, but they checked both boxes during Sunday’s home game against the Colts.
Drew Lock threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Giants to their first home win of the season. The 45-33 victory eliminated the Colts from postseason contention and it also knocked the Giants out of position to earn the first overall pick in the draft, which many fans saw as the only consolation for sticking with the team through such a poor season.
After the game, Lock said he could see the fans’ point of view even though things are very different for the players who are actually taking part in the games.
“I’d say that’s just a part of the game,” Lock said, via a transcript from the team. “When you’ve got the draft involved, it’s not college. You don’t get to pick where you go with the draft being involved. The playoff is out of contention, you understand what they’re saying. But at the same time, like I said, it’s nice to say we’re going to go work, we’re going to keep doing this, we’re going to keep pushing, the season’s not over, we’ve got two games left to be able to come out and win this one — that’s the goal every single week, come out and win and work as hard as we can to do it.”
The results of Week 17 knocked the Giants down to the fourth overall pick and things could change again after they face the Eagles in Week 18, but those concerns won’t be occupying a prime spot in Lock’s mind this week.
