LA QUINTA, Calif. – Senior
Charlie DeLong led the Red Raiders in the first round, at the 25th running of The Prestige, with a 3-under-par 68 on Monday at the PGA WEST Greg Norman Course.
DeLong’s 68, on the par-71 course, included five birdies, which were the 12th most in the field during the first round. The senior currently sits in a tie for sixth place out of the 120 talented players competing in the team tournament. This is DeLong’s fourth round in a row that he has shot under par.
Freshman
Connor Graham continued his strong freshman campaign by finishing the first round of the Prestige with an even-par 71. Graham finished Monday’s round in a tie for 40th. The freshman has a four-round streak of shooting par or better ahead of Tuesday’s round.
Juniors
Tim Wiedemeyer and
Price Hill rounded out the scores counted for the Red Raiders in Monday’s round. Wiedemeyer shot a 1-over-par 72 to finish round one in a tie for 53rd place while Hill fired a 2-over-par 73 to finish in a tie for 66th. Senior
Calum Scott also finished the first round in a tie with Hill and others at 66th.
Overall, Texas Tech is in a tie for 10th place of the 24 teams in action at an even-par (284). The Red Raiders are tied with Colorado and Kansas State and sit one shot back from eighth place and two behind the top five.
Both sophomore
Ben Gregg and freshman
Sean Keeling are competing in the Individuals portion of the Prestige tournament in Indio, Calif. at the Golf Course at Terra Lago. Gregg finished Monday’s first round in the top 15 after firing a 2-over-par 74. The sophomore currently sits in a tie for 14th in the field of 39 competing individuals. Keeling shot a 5-over-par 77 to finish in a tie for 25th.
The Red Raiders continue the 25th annual Prestige on Tuesday. The individual portion will open for the Red Raiders with Gregg at 10:10 a.m. CT with Keeling’s tee time following at 10:50 a.m. CT. The team portion will be back in action starting with Hill at 1 p.m. CT.
