Curbing drug menace will be top priority, says Vizag police chief | Visakhapatnam News – Times of India
Visakhapatnam: Shanka Brata Bagchi, the new commissioner of police (CP) for Visakhapatam, assumed office on Monday. On his first day, he said that the focus will be on controlling drugs and narcotics menace in the city.
It may be mentioned here that Bagchi is a 1996-batch IPS officer who served as the additional director general of police (ADG) (law and order) by replacing A Ravi Shankar who has been transferred and posted as additional director general of police of CID.
The new Vizag commissioner said that police will take strict measures to curb the drug menace in the city.
“My work will speak about policing as I won’t say big words,” he added.
The new police chief emphasised the importance of public service, asked his police team to treat everyone who visits the police station, with respect and avoid any misbehaviour with the public. Affirming a zero-tolerance policy, he warned that involvement of police in corruption would result in strict action against those officials. He advised the police officers to listen to the people to understand their problems.
Bagchi said that he is aware of the various issues in the city and wished to work as a team as he stressed upon continuing the good works in busting cannabis smuggling, narcotics and other crimes. He also stresssed the need to prevent the influx of cannabis and other drugs in Vizag city from neighbouring states.
