Duke freshman star Cooper Flagg remained atop ESPN draft analyst Jonathan Givony‘s latest NBA draft big board released Saturday.
Flagg is followed by the Rutgers freshman duo of Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, all of whom have been considered likely high picks in the draft since the start of the 2024-25 season. Givony’s full top 10 is as follows:
2. Dylan Harper, G, Rutgers
3. Ace Bailey, F, Rutgers
4. VJ Edgecombe, G, Baylor
5. Kasparas Jakucionis, G, Illinois
7. Nolan Traore, G, France
8. Khaman Maluach, C, Duke
10. Jeremiah Fears, G, Oklahoma
Givony noted that NBA scouts believe the 2025 draft is “one of the strongest classes in recent years.”
Flagg arrived at Duke as the No. 1 recruit in the nation and one of the most hyped recruits in recent memory, but he has somehow managed to live up to the lofty expectations.
He remarkably leads the Blue Devils in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks, as he is averaging 18.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.2 blocks and 1.3 three-pointers made per game, while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from long range.
Last weekend, Flagg showcased his immense potential against Notre Dame by setting a Duke and ACC single-game freshman record with 42 points.
Flagg has scored 20 or more points in six of his past 10 games, and he is making a strong case to be considered for National Player of the Year honors as the top player on the No. 3-ranked team in the country.
Two of Flagg’s Duke teammates in Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach are also in Givony’s top 10, which speaks to head coach Jon Scheyer’s recruiting and the Blue Devils’ chances of contending for a national title.
Many experts and prognosticators thought Rutgers would be contenders this season as well thanks to the arrival of Harper and Bailey, and while that hasn’t been the case thus far, it isn’t because they haven’t delivered.
Although the Scarlet Knights are a fairly disappointing 10-8, the superstar freshman duo are the reason why they haven’t been far worse.
Harper is averaging 20.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, while Bailey is putting up 19.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest.
No other player on the Rutgers roster is averaging better than 7.3 points per game, which explains the team’s struggles as a whole, but it shouldn’t impact the draft stock of Harper and Bailey.
Unlike last year when each of the top two picks and three of the top six were foreign prospects, only one non-collegiate player is in Givony’s top 10 currently.
That speaks to the star power currently in the college ranks, which should make for an exciting stretch run and NCAA tournament.
There is likely also plenty of excitement among the NBA’s worst teams this season since franchises like the Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, Charlotte Hornets and others are positioning themselves to land potential superstars in the draft.
