Week 5 of the college football season produced several major storylines, including of teams finding some late-game luck to squeak out a victory.
Mario Cristobal and No. 7 Miami experienced that firsthand, staving off an upset to Virginia Tech to remain undefeated on the season due to a controversial ending on Friday night. The potential game-winning throw from Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones was originally called a touchdown by the officials but was reversed after review.
Clemson picked up its third consecutive of the season, as Dabo Swinney’s squad improved to 2-0 in ACC play with a 40-14 win over Stanford. With the win, the Tigers should continue to silently move back up into the top 15 in the national polls after their Week 1 loss to Georgia.

Elsewhere, Kyle McCord and Syracuse picked up their 22nd consecutive win over an FCS opponent since 1978, as the Orange beat Holy Cross 42-14. Whether the Orange squeak into the top 25 from the win remains to be seen, but Fran Brown’s squad should receive votes for the second time in a matter of weeks.
