Video: Everything you need to know about the Cincinnati Open 2024
The Cincinnati Open tennis tournament returns to Mason Aug. 11-19. Here’s everything to know.
Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, the top-ranked players in tennis, will be the No. 1 seeds in the Cincinnati Open, which begins Sunday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
Sinner and Swiatek headline a field that includes seven past tournament champions and over 100 players who competed in the Paris Olympics.
The ATP and WTA draws were held in Mason on Saturday afternoon.
Fans won’t see some of the top names in tennis early in the tournament with qualifying play on tap for Sunday and the majority of Monday.
Sinner, who has ascended to the top of men’s tennis and grabbed the World No. 1 ranking in June, is the No. 1 seed in the ATP draw. Each of the top 8 seeds receive a first-round bye and should take the court in the Round of 32 on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sinner will play the winner of the match between Tallon Griekspoor and a qualifier. World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz, a finalist in Cincinnati last summer, will play either Alexei Popyrin (No. 62) or Gael Monfils (No. 34) in the second round.
Daniil Medvedev, the 2019 Cincinnati Open champion, will play either Jiri Lehecka (No. 29) or Mariano Navone (No. 36) in the Round of 32. Alexander Zverev, who hoisted the Rookwood Trophy in 2021, will play the winner of Karen Khachanov (No. 22) vs. Francisco Cerundolo (No. 26).
On the women’s side, 18 of the top 20 players in the WTA rankings are slated to play in the Cincinnati Open. For the second consecutive year, Swiatek is the top-seed in the WTA draw. The 23-year-old from Poland’s semifinal run in last year’s Cincinnati Open was her best career showing at the tournament.
Fresh off winning a Bronze Medal in the Olympics, Swiatek begins her quest for the Rookwood Trophy in the Round of 32 against either Ajla Tomljanovic (No. 123) or a qualifier. World No. 2 Coco Gauff, the reigning Cincinnati Open champion, will begin her title defense in the second round against either Yulia Putintseva (No. 31) or a qualifier.
Gauff is one of four former Cincinnati Open champions in the WTA main draw. Victoria Azarenka is one of only two players (Serena Williams) to win the event multiple times this century.
World No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka is trying to climb back to the summit of the WTA Rankings after jumping Swiatek on the leaderboard last September. She held that position for just eight weeks before Swiatek regained it. Sabalenka, who plays in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open Saturday, will face either a qualifier or No. 61 Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round.
