NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Airports are packed with travelers as we head into Thanksgiving weekend.
It’s notoriously the busiest time of year to travel across the nation and Charleston International Airport is no exception.
On Wednesday, there were times when all 4 lanes in the drop-off zones were packed as officers helped people through the red crosswalk zones. More staff was on hand than normal to help with the influx of travelers.
As for inside at TSA, the winding line completely was filled up to the entrance point several times throughout the day. It moved quickly as people made their way through security.
Charleston International Airport Deputy Executive Director and Chief Communications Officer Spencer Pryor says it’s important to arrive early, plan ahead — and make sure what you’re packing is within TSA guidelines.
“We’ve seen some frozen turkeys, the gravy and all that good stuff, but knowing that if it’s gravy, if it’s a liquid it can’t go through. There are other requirements, but by being proactive and going onto tsa.gov and checking that out in advance it will speed up that process of going through the TSA checkpoint,” said Pryor.
Pryor says about 130k passengers went through the TSA checkpoint last year. This holiday weekend was already up 11% from the year before.
This year they are expecting to top that.
