CELTIC are leading in the way in Scottish football this season.
But it turns out Brendan Rodgers‘ men are also toping the charts across the globe – in one key department.
Celtic are tied with Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership and haven’t lost a game in domestic action all season.
Their only defeat came at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in their 7-1 mauling in Germany last month.
The Hoops have been in scintillating form under the Northern Irishman and have looked unstoppable aside from that humbling result in front of the Yellow Wall.
Nicolas Kuhn has been the standout going forward with 21 goal involvements already.
The whole attack is averaging around three goals every game in the league with Kuhn, Kyogo Furuhashi and Diazen Maeda leading the way.
The additions of Kasper Schmeichel and Auston Trusty have also strengthened their backline as they’ve only conceded three goals in 11 league games – two of which were scored in one game by nearest challengers Aberdeen.
But it’s the whole team collectively that deserves praise for overtaking the best clubs in the world in one key area.
And that department is ball possession.
Celtic have always been one of the clubs near the top of the pile for possession given how often they dominate games domestically.
But this season they have taken it to a whole new level.
Only Bayern Munich compete with the Scottish champions in terms of how much of the ball they see each game in their respective country.
The German giants and Celtic are tied at the top of the charts with an average 69.6 per cent chare of the ball in domestic football this season, according to data from Wyscout.
Birmingham City are surprisingly third with 68.3 per cent, PSV Eindhoven come in fourth with 68.2 per cent, while PSG make up the top five with 67. 4 per cent.
Celtic are also ranked third in the globe for passes completed in the opponent’s third.
They make an average of 67.8 passes in their rivals’ danger area but that’s a lot less than the two teams at the top.
PSV lead the way with an average of 75.8, while Bayern Munich sit closely behind with 74.3.
