There’s evening racing action at Cartmel on Wednesday, with the first race due off at 5:50pm, and we’ve got a free Cartmel tip on-site from our expert tipster Alan Kelly, with his selection available at 11/1 with the top bookmakers.
A well-supported 9/4 favourite to win this selling handicap hurdle 12 months ago, the Philip Kirby-trained CLEAN GETAWAY (Each-Way) looked like landing the gamble when going five lengths clear of his 10 rivals with three to jump, only to be collared by fellow rival Calevade inside the final 100 yards.
Following a spell point-to-pointing later in the season, the seven-year-old returned to hurdles at Sedgefield just over two weeks ago, finishing a creditable fourth of the 12 runners despite being bumped after jumping the second-last. Jockey Joe Williamson gets on well with the Getaway gelding and his 3lb claim means that Clean Getaway, instead of racing from 4lb out of the handicap, will only be 1lb wrong.
The each-way selection returns to the Cumbrian track for only the second time. In such a modest contest, a performance similar to last year should see Clean Getaway go close once again.
If fit enough on his first start for 10 months, George Mallory is a potential danger along with Callin Baton Rouge from the Warren Greatrex stable.
