Two students with aspirations to become medical doctors are graduating at the top of their class at Bishop Ryan Catholic School.
The 2024 Bishop Ryan graduation ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, at 12:30 p.m., at the school.
Chuka Osuala, salutatorian, has participated in both athletic extracurriculars and academic extracurriculars throughout his high school years.
“In high school I participated in wrestling, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad and student council. This year I was an assistant chaplain and became the founder and president of the Bishop Ryan Chess Club,” he said.
After graduation Osuala will attend the University of Arizona, where he will study physiology and biomedical sciences, and then will attend medical school to become a doctor.
Chinela Udekwe will be graduating as Bishop Ryan’s 2024 valedictorian. Udekwe has been part of a plethora of extracurricular activities during her time at Bishop Ryan – most of which she excelled at.
“During high school, I participated in many extracurricular activities. I played volleyball and basketball, and I ran track. I have been a captain for all these sports, and for volleyball, I made the All-State Team as well as the All-Star Team. I have coached and continue to coach travel and summer volleyball. I am the student body president and National Honor Society president,” she said.
Not only was she active in sports as well as student government, Udekwe also volunteers, works part time and is a part of Our Lady of Grace Altar Society.
“I have loved being a part of both organizations because they have provided me with opportunities to help others. I have been able to organize fundraisers, clothing and food drives and found other ways to volunteer,” she said. “I have taken several college and AP classes and have received college credits for them. I am also a part of Our Lady of Grace Altar Society and I serve and usher at Mass. I also volunteer at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen. I am an assistant chaplain at my school and also the homecoming queen. I am a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and I work part time at the Trinity Health FirstCare Walk-In clinic in Minot.”
Udekwe will be attending the University of Notre Dame in the fall, where she plans to double major in science preprofessional studies (premed) and psychology to fulfill her dream of attending medical school and becoming a physician.
