With district play intensifying around the Lone Star State, the 2024-25 Texas boys and girls high school basketball season is heating up.
Several of the Big Country’s sharpest shooters and most prolific playmakers put on electric performances to power their teams to pivotal victories in district competition.
Here’s a closer look at the Big Country’s top performers on the basketball court for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2, 2025:
Aidan Brown, Roscoe boys basketball
Brown put up a double-double that included 21 points, 10 rebounds and five 3-pointers to lead the Plowboys to a 64-50 win over Miles to secure the district title. He also scored 16 points in a 65-61 victory over Ballinger.
Jaxson Browne, Westbrook boys basketball
Browne poured in 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block in a 58-28 win over Roscoe Highland. He tallied 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 70-29 victory against Loraine too.
Marcus Cook, Ballinger boys basketball
Cook scored a game-high 30 points in Ballinger’s 65-61 road loss to Roscoe.
Lynnzy Escobedo, Snyder girls basketball
Escobedo racked up 20 points and three rebounds to power the Tigers to a 50-49 overtime win against Lubbock Estacado.
Londyn Franklin, Abilene Wylie girls basketball
Franklin helped Wylie clinch the District 4-5A championship by dropping a game-high 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting with five rebounds, five steals and four assists in the Bulldogs’ 56-40 victory against Abilene High.
Isaac Martinez, Lingleville boys basketball
Martinez tallied 26 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block in a 49-30 victory over Walnut Springs. He also racked up 27 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Cardinals’ 59-43 win against Iredell.
Law Pinnick, Cisco boys basketball
Pinnick posted a pair of monster double-doubles in the Loboes’ wins against Hawley and Albany. He tallied 18 points and 19 rebounds versus Hawley, and he racked up 23 points and 10 rebounds in Cisco’s victory over Albany.
Raenee Rich, Westbrook girls basketball
Rich posted a double-double and shot the lights out in Westbrook’s 52-18 win over Roscoe Highland, boasting an 8-of-12 shooting clip that included a 3-for-3 mark on 3-pointers and a 4-of-4 performance at the free-throw line. She finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Madeline Underwood, Clyde girls basketball
Underwood notched her fifth and sixth consecutive games with a double-double in the Bulldogs’ 53-36 win over Merkel and their 61-33 loss to Wall last week. She tallied 24 points and 14 rebounds against Merkel, and she finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds versus Wall.
Zoey Welch, Roscoe girls basketball
Welch finished with a game-high 24 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 46-23 win over Miles. She also scored 15 points in Roscoe’s 68-51 victory against Ballinger.
Jariyis Williams, Munday boys basketball
Williams recorded a double-double with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 70-46 win over Knox City.
Baylor Wright, Coahoma girls basketball
Wright dropped 19 points with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Bulldogs’ 57-36 win over Stanton. She also recorded 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 52-38 victory against Brownfield.
