With district play now in the rearview mirror and the UIL playoffs tipping off around the Lone Star State, the 2024-25 Texas boys and girls high school basketball season is heating up.
Several of the Big Country’s sharpest shooters and most prolific playmakers put on electric performances to power their teams to pivotal victories in district competition.
Here’s a closer look at the Big Country’s top performers on the basketball court for the week of Feb. 10-16, 2025:
Caleb Browne, Westbrook boys basketball
Browne boasted 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with seven steals, four rebounds and an assist in a 62-41 victory over Hermleigh to close out the regular season.
Ava Burrell, Roscoe girls basketball
Burrell played a pivotal role in the Plowgirls advancing to the regional semifinals of the 2A DI UIL playoffs, racking up a combined 32 points, 12 rebounds and four steals in a bi-district round victory against Sonora and an area round win over Smyer.
Gracie Caperton, Clyde girls basketball
Caperton finished with 35 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Bulldogs’ area round overtime win over Early.
Keagan Hayes, Benjamin boys basketball
Hayes dropped 34 points on 11-of-27 shooting with 11 rebounds, seven steals and an assist in the Mustangs’ 52-44 win over Knox City. He also recorded 24 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and six steals in a loss to Munday.
Pearson Hearne, Cisco girls basketball
Hearne dropped a team-high 15 points and played a pivotal role defensively in the Loboes buzzer-beating loss to Seymour in the bi-district round of the 2A DI UIL playoffs.
Destiny Jamison, Comanche girls basketball
Jamison tallied a game-high 26 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists in the Maidens’ bi-district round win over Holliday in the 3A DI UIL Girls Basketball Playoffs. She also scored 17 points in an area round loss to Jim Ned.
Jaedyn Lee, Merkel girls basketball
Lee tallied 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal in Merkel’s area round loss to Wichita Falls City View. She also scored a team-high 15 points in a bi-district round victory against Brady.
Ry Reed, Gordon boys basketball
Reed helped Gordon close out the regular season on a high note with 24 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 71-35 victory over Bremond.
Madi Renteria, Coahoma girls basketball
Renteria tallied 17 points, seven steals, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks in a bi-district round victory over Tornillo. She also posted a double-double in an area round win over Slaton which featured 11 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and an assist.
