Mattresses can be life changing. If you’re lucky enough to have a regular sleep schedule, you spend a third of each day lying in bed. But if you’re sleeping on a bad mattress, it’ll affect your entire 24 hours. Back pain can follow you wherever you go, and poor sleep has a wide array of side effects.
It’s a drag that mattresses are so expensive. Buying a new mattress — a good one — will set you back as much as a laptop or a luxury weekend away. Thankfully, there are workarounds. Memorial Day is among the top times of year to score massive retail discounts. If your back is crying out for a new bed, but your wallet says otherwise, keep reading for the best Memorial Day mattress sales of 2024, on the mattresses that our experts recommend most.
A note before I begin the list: Some companies’ Memorial Day sales have already gone into effect and are reflected in the prices. Others have not applied their discounts yet, so be sure to check the prices on the websites!
In our contemporary lives, we’re surrounded by chemicals, but according to Marten Carlson, a mattress expert and certified sleep science coach at Mattress Clarity, “Birch offers eco-friendly latex mattresses that are both supportive and comfortable.” We recommend their Luxe Natural Mattress. It’s GOTS and GREENGUARD Gold Certified, and designed with breathable, supportive materials. Through May 30, you can enjoy a 25% sitewide discount with code MEMDAY25.
An organic mattress means you can rest easy knowing you won’t be breathing in anything harmful while you sleep. Avocado’s Green Mattress uses a combo of latex, wool and cotton, all certified organic. Their Memorial Day sale runs through June 3, and includes 15% off Green mattresses.
The Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress combines premium materials to deliver cozy foam latex comfort and supportive springs. The four-inch natural latex foam layer is encased in a plush topper of New Zealand wool and organic cotton. Awara’s Memorial Day Sale is an opportunity for big savings: The sale runs through June 3rd with discounts of up to 50% off sitewide.
I’m always looking for a budget option when making a big purchase. Why spend more than I have to? Luckily, this affordable mattress option comes with a stamp of approval from Julia Forbes, a sleep product expert and certified sleep science coach at Sleep Advisor. “Nectar mattresses provide affordable memory foam options without compromising on quality,” she says. “Nectar is offering up to 40% off mattresses for new customers for Memorial Day.”
The risk in buying a low-budget option is that you may sacrifice quality. That’s not the case with the Zoma Start Mattress, which features a firm and supportive foam base with two layers of gel memory foam for both cooling and contouring plushness. This Memorial Day, they’re offering $150 off any mattress with the code WIN150. You can also take advantage of their 20% Memorial Day Discount on sports pillows and body pillows with the code MDPILLOWS.
How long does a mattress last in relation to what you pay? Even with the best mattress protectors, mattresses eventually wear out, and sometimes being too frugal can mean a short-lived investment. The best value option, then, might not be the absolute cheapest. “Saatva offers luxury hybrid mattresses with eco-friendly materials, a lifetime warranty and a 365-night trial, providing a great value for their quality,” says Forbes. “Saatva is offering $250 off orders of $1,000 or more with mattress purchase.”
Sleep Number was a pioneer in the technologically-advanced bed industry, and now for Memorial Day, you can get their Limited Edition Smart Bed for 50% off. Although $2,750 might seem steep, it’s a steal when you consider the list price is $5,500. Hop on this amazing deal before it’s too late!
WIth their 40% off Memorial Day Sale, the Siena Hybrid Mattress is one of the best deals around. Already a reasonably affordable mattress, this hybrid is the best of both worlds, featuring a cushioned top, two layers of memory foam and the support of individually-wrapped, 7” springs.
I’m all about a soft and squishy mattress, but too much of a good thing is generally bad for you. A medium-firm mattress provides the support that combats back pain without getting too ascetic. Carlson recommends the DreamCloud Premier Mattress: “DreamCloud sells a range of hybrid mattresses, and while their base model is on the firmer end, the Premier and Premier Rest are both going to give you a nice medium-firm feel.”
Amerisleep uses a special Bio-Pur® memory foam that is super breathable and cooling, while offering a medium-firm feel. It’s both eco-friendly and comfortable. You can get an exclusive $500 off any mattress to celebrate Memorial Day with the code MD500. Round out your purchase with pillows, a mattress topper or bamboo sheets, available at a 20% discount with the code MD20.
Side sleepers, this one’s for you. The Nolah Signature 12 Mattress is designed with side sleepers in mind, and it’s on sale this Memorial Day. “Nolah’s all-foam mattress is designed specifically for side sleepers,” Forbes explains. “It has good pressure relief and Nolah is offering up to $1,000 off, plus two free pillows with select mattresses.”
The Vaya Memory Foam Mattress prioritizes advanced contouring to support varied sleep postures. This already affordable option has an additional $300 discount for Memorial Day with the code VAYA300.
Just like side sleepers, back sleepers have their own set of needs. If you don’t know what type of sleeper you are, Carlson recommends Helix. “You can put in your information on their site and they will find a mattress for your sleeping position,” he says. “If you are a back sleeper, they will probably recommend the Helix Midnight, one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.”
PlushBeds uses all organic materials for their firm and supportive 10-inch mattress. The outer one-inch layer of cotton and wool is organic, as is the three-inch foam cushion and the six-inch latex core. This mattress is medium-firm, offering optimal support for back sleepers. For Memorial Day, it’s available at a steep discount — they’re offering up to 50% off their luxury mattress, and they’ll throw in a free bedding bundle, valued at up to $599.
I’ve had my share of memory foam mattress toppers, and there’s nothing quite like this material’s uniquely squishy contouring. “DreamCloud’s hybrid mattresses combine memory foam and coils for a luxurious feel and excellent pressure relief, with gel-infused foam for cooling,” says Forbes. “Dreamcloud is offering up to 50% off mattresses for new customers.”
Casper is among the most popular mattress startups that promise affordable luxury. Their three-layer foam mattress is medium firm and breathable. For Memorial Day, Casper is offering a sitewide 30% discount. The sale runs from May 8 to June 5.
It’s tough to sleep in the sweltering heat. Luckily, there are mattresses designed with materials that address the needs of sweaty sleepers, and Carlson has a recommendation. “The Bear mattresses provide some excellent cooling, with heat-dissipating materials infused into the foam and even Phase Change Material, one of the most cooling materials out there.”
One downside of standard memory foam is its tendency to hold on to warmth. Leesa’s Sapira Mattress, however, layers multiple types of special foam to ensure an ideal skin temperature of 88 degrees. You can get 25% off mattresses until May 13. From May 14 to June 3, the Memorial Day sale continues with 30% off — they’ll even throw in a free gift (details to be announced) from among their selection of sleep accessories.
Sharing a bed with another person presents its own challenges. Carlson recommends WinkBeds for couples, saying that “WinkBed’s mattresses provide excellent edge support, ensuring that you and your partner can sleep all the way toward the edge of the mattress without rolling off.”
Brentwood Home’s Oceano Luxury Hybrid Mattress combines the cooling contours of Bio-Pur® gel memory foam with the structural support of wool, cotton and coils. The coils help to limit movement transfer, making it a great option for couples. Their Memorial Day sale is a 10% sitewide discount, and it runs until June 3.
Sleep Number is a longstanding mattress brand designed for couples. You can set the firmness for each side of the bed to ensure that both partners get the unique support they need. For Memorial Day, their c2 Smart Bed is 10% off.
If you suffer from allergies, you know that numerous things can trigger the dreaded reactions. Essentia crafts their mattresses from organic natural latex. They focus specifically on eliminating all possible allergens and are certified allergen free! Essentia’s Memorial Day Sale will be a site-wide 25% discount. Qualifying mattress purchases also include a free set of GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton Sheets.
Kids need quality mattresses, too! Luckily, one of the top organic mattress companies has a line specifically designed for children. Birch’s kid-friendly mattresses are flippable, with a firmer side that better suits kids between the ages of 3 and 7, and a softer side for ages 8 to 12. Birch offers both twin and full size options.
Saatva is another luxury mattress company that makes a specialized kids’ bed. The Saatva Youth Mattress is a smart investment for parents. It comes in three sizes: twin, twin XL and full. Its flippable, double-sided design means it can adapt to your kid as they grow. You can also add a waterproof mattress protector for just $155 extra. For Memorial Day (May 10-June 3), they’ll offer up to $500 off orders of $875 or more.
PlushBeds’ kids’ mattress is the best of several worlds. Not only is it designed with an eye towards the specific needs of children, it’s also an eco-friendly mattress that combines organic latex and organic cotton. It’s available at a discount of over $200 this Memorial Day and comes with up to $599 worth of free bedding. The bedding bundle includes two pillows, a sheet set and a mattress protector (all organic, of course!)
This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 27. Individual companies set their own dates for their Memorial Day sales, and some span the entire month of May.
Yes! Nearly every retailer offers sales at this time of year, with discounts on almost any product you could think of. In a smart time for making big purchases, the only difficulty is deciding between the best memorial day TV sales, vehicle sales and mattress sales.
“There is no month in particular that is the best month to buy a mattress,” says Carlson. “Any major holiday is usually a good time to buy a mattress.”
Forbes agrees with this sentiment, and adds: “Months that have big holidays like December, November, May and July are great times to look into buying a new mattress.”
“It’s important to understand that you should not just purchase a mattress based on price,” cautions Forbes. Carlson agrees, stating that “there is no individual best mattress that will fit everyone.”
However, they offer some guidance for figuring out which mattress will suit you best. “Before purchasing a mattress, do some research to find one that fits your sleeping position and comfort preferences,” Forbes advises.
“You should consider your budget, sleeping position, comfort preferences and design preferences. Then you can determine which mattress is best for you and look at the best deals,” says Carlson.
“Most holidays are times when mattress brands offer excellent deals,” says Carlson. “The best holidays for mattress sales are Memorial Day, Labor Day, the Fourth of July and Black Friday/Cyber Monday.”
Ultimately, however, the time of year won’t be the determining factor in your mattress purchase. Forbes leaves us with one sage piece of advice: “The best time to buy a new mattress is when your mattress is showing signs of needing to be replaced.”
