Germany is arguably home to the most exciting title race of the women’s season thus far, with at least four teams in the mix to lift the trophy at the end of the campaign. Leverkusen, currently in fourth on 26, have a game in hand that should they win would propel them upwards into third, making all four contenders on the same tally thereabouts. Frankfurt and Bayern, first and second respectively, have an identical record bar goal difference, which is an ode to how competitive the league has become over the years… at the top, that is. If the former hold on, it would mark their first league title since 2007/2008.
At the other end, it has been an almighty drop off from SGS Essen, who have gone from finishing fourth last term to fighting relegation this time around. While they are the best of the four at the bottom, leading the way on eight points, just the two wins in 12 has made for a disappointing showing, unable to build on 23/24. Given two sides go down — something which is to be scrapped in 25/26 when the league expands — it is anyone’s guess who could suffer relegation. Potsdam, a promotion side last year, are perhaps the favourites after a winless run to date and just one point on the board. Carl Zeiss Jena, who came up with Potsdam, are in a similar boat, but three draws has seen their hopes improve. Koln are also in there, though will take confidence from the fact they are the only side of the four to pick up three points in their last five games.
