The Sacramento Kings have had 32 head coaches in franchise history. Four of those coaches were at the helm for at least 476 games with the team. Let’s highlight their top five all-time leaders in games coached.
Adelman had coaching stints on the Trail Blazers and Warriors before taking over for the Kings. He made the playoffs in all eight seasons as their head coach. During the regular season, they won at least 50 games in a season five times. While Adelman led the team to plenty of success during the regular season, he was never able to bring home a championship. He finished with a regular season record of 395-229 with the Kings and went 34-35 in the playoffs.
Johnson had two different head coaching stints with the Kings franchise. The first of which began in the 1973-74 season with the then Kansas City-Omaha Kings where he helped the Kings make the playoffs the following season with a 44-38 record. His first time with the team ended with him going 13-24 in the 1977-78 season. Johnson then returned to the franchise as their head coach for the 1984-85 season. He didn’t win more than 37 games in any of the next three seasons before losing the job. In total, he had a regular season record of 236-306 with the franchise. In the playoffs, he went 2-7.
Fitzsimmons served as the head coach for the Kansas City Kings for six seasons, beginning with the 1978-79 campaign. The team went 48-34 that season and made the playoffs. The team made the playoffs four times with Fitzsimmons as their head coach, including in his first three seasons. In those four playoff appearances, the team went just 9-17. During the regular season, Fitzsimmons had a career record of 248-244 with the franchise.
Harrison served as the head coach of the Rochester Royals for seven seasons. He won at least 41 games in each of his first five seasons and the team made the playoffs in all seven seasons with him as their head coach. That included when they won the championship in the 1950-51 season. He finished with a regular season record of 295-181 for his career. Harrison spent his entire head coaching career with the Kings.
St. Jean served as an assistant coach on the Bucks, Nets and Warriors before getting an opportunity to be the head coach of the Kings. He took over the team for the 1992-93 season, putting up a record of 25-57. He never won more than 39 games in a season and made just one playoff appearance, which came during the 1995-96 season when the team went 39-43. St. Jean had a career regular season record of 159-236 with the Kings.
