MANILA – Kieffer Alas of De La Salle-Zobel and Barby Dajao of University of Santo Tomas emerged as top local performers in their respective divisions after the elimination round of the UAAP Season 87 high school basketball tournaments.
The 6-foot-2 Alas garnered 91.429 statistical points (SPs), averaging 20.07 points, 11.14 rebounds, 4.93 assists, and 1.07 steals per game for the Junior Archers, who are sixth in the team standings with a 6-8 record.
Dajao, a Grade 12 guard from Bacolod City, dominated the girls division with 105.5 SPs. She averaged 15.17 points, 10.17 rebounds, 6.17 assists, and 4.33 steals per game in leading the unbeaten Junior Growling Tigresses.
Alas and Dajao came up with brilliant performances in the final day of eliminations to secure the top spot.
Alas, who is in Grade 11, finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and five steals in DLSZ’s 71-61 triumph over FEU last Thursday.
Baby Tamaraw Cab Cabonilas had nine points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal to settle for second among locals and third overall with 90.071 SPs.
Nigerian center Collins Akowe of National University Nazareth School (NUNS) ranked No. 1 overall with 105.786 SPs. The Season 86 MVP averaged 20.79 points, 19.21 rebounds, 2.71 assists, and 1.79 blocks per game.
UST forward Racine Kane of Senegal is fourth with 88.0 SPs followed by Adamson’s Mark Esperanza (76.385 SPs) and UP Integrated School’s Ethan Egea (66.643 SPs).
Meanwhile, Dajao delivered 15 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists, one steal and one block steal in UST’s 91-66 victory over NUNS to overtake Zaydhen Rosano.
Rosano had eight points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and three steals to settle for second with 105.167 SPs.
DLSZ’s Erica De Luna placed third with 102.167 SPs followed by UST’s Rhiane Perez (98.25), NUNS’ Aubrey Lapasaran (91.167), and UST’s Katrina Insoy (68.667). (PNA)
