Leave it to Vanderbilt to make an otherwise mundane college football slate incredibly interesting. The Commodores lead No. 1 Alabama 23-14 at the half. Vanderbilt is hunting for its first ever win against an AP No. 1 team (0-10 all time) or even a top-five team (0-60).
Those 23 points match Vanderbilt’s scoring total from each of its last five games against Alabama combined. It’s also tied for the third-most points that the Commodores have ever scored against a top-five team (the record is 38 points).
Vanderbilt was previously outscored 100-0 in its last two meetings against No. 1 Alabama. The Commodores haven’t beaten the Crimson Tide since 1984. All of this to say, an upset would be the definition of historic — this in a game where Vanderbilt has already made plenty of history.
