After a more than two-year absence, the Michigan men’s basketball program is back in the AP Top-25 poll. The Wolverines are ranked in Monday’s poll, checking in at No. 14.
Michigan is 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten after winning at then-No. 11 Wisconsin and beating Iowa at home this past week. Given that the Wolverines were only a few spots away last week, their inclusion in Monday’s poll was expected.
It was a long time coming. Michigan was ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 before the 2022-23 season and stayed there for one week, appearing at No. 20 in the Nov. 14, 2022 poll. After getting blown out by Arizona State that week, the Wolverines dropped out of the rankings, failing to reappear until Monday.
They may need to beat Arkansas on Tuesday to stay there. The matchup is part of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York. Tipoff is set for approximately 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
In the latest women’s poll, also released Monday afternoon, Michigan is at No. 20, up three spots from last week’s season debut.
The Michigan women surged into the top 25 last week and stayed there after beating Northwestern on Sunday, 60-54, in the Big Ten opener. They play just once this week as well, Saturday at home against Detroit Mercy.
