Virat Kohli has overtaken Rahul Dravid and now has the most outfield catches by an Indian in international cricket.
India, who were asked to field first by Australia in the semi-final of the 2025 Champions Trophy, picked up regular wickets and reduced the opposition to 144-4 in the 27th over at one stage. Following the early departures of Cooper Connolly and Travis Head, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne put up a fight before the latter departed.
Josh Inglis was the next batter to fall, as he punched a length ball from Ravindra Jadeja to cover, where Kohli latched onto an easy catch.
It was his 160th catch in ODIs, having earlier surpassed Mohammed Azharuddin’s tally of 156 outfield catches in the tournament. He equalled Ricky Ponting at second in ODIs with that catch, behind only Mahela Jayawardene (218).
The Inglis catch also took his tally to 335 in international cricket across formats, having also picked up 121 in Tests and 54 in T20Is. Kohli has played 549 games, effecting 0.509 dismissals every game on average. He then also caught Adam Zampa later in the innings, taking his total to 336 catches and going past Ponting in the ODI list.
Kohli is only the second India non-wicketkeeper to affect 300 or more dismissals across formats in international cricket. Rahul Dravid, who has 334 catches as a fielder, is second on the list.
Overall, including wicketkeepers, Kohli is third on the India list, which is led by MS Dhoni (631 catches) and Dravid (405 catches).
In the all-time global record, Kohli entered the top five of most catches by non-wicketkeepers in international cricket. Jayawardene (440 catches) is the only player with more than 400 catches, followed by Ricky Ponting (364).
Dravid, who also took a catch while playing for Asia, is sixth in the all-time list.
