Following the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 6-5 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, captain Auston Matthews had his say about playing against Sidney Crosby. He complimented the 37-year-old Penguins superstar, describing him as one of the league’s top players and noting his consistent high-level play against any team.
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews expressed his respect for Sidney Crosby after their electrifying contest on Sunday. The Leafs picked up a close 6-5 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena, as both teams put their offensive abilities on display.
Following the game, Matthews had nothing but praise for the 37-year-old Penguins captain, citing Crosby’s incredible consistency and elite level of skill. He called Crosby one of the greatest players in the league, pointing out his capability to play at a high level year in and year out, no matter the opponent. Matthews recognized the difficulty of playing against a player like Crosby, adding that his experience, leadership, and hockey IQ make him an opponent to fear in every game.
Even at his advanced age, Crosby remains a force to be reckoned with in the NHL, exhibiting the same level of drive and competitiveness that has characterized his entire career. Matthews’ words echo the great admiration many players feel for Crosby, who is one of the game’s most powerful and impactful stars.
“Yeah, I mean, he’s still one of the best players in the league and a guy that’s tough to play against on any given night. There’s a reason he is who he is. No matter what season he’s playing in, he’s still at the top of his game in my opinion. It’s always a challenge,” Auston Matthews said.
Sidney Crosby had a huge impact in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring a goal and adding an assist. His goal was a milestone score, the 611th of his career, which enabled him to pass Bobby Hull, who had 610, to reach 18th place on the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list.
