Each and every day of the racing year, we bring you a bumper NAPS Table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what an NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
Real Stone made all in good style at Wetherby last time, but he’s inconsistent, and today’s less demanding ground may be against him. Preference is for six-time course winner BOLLINGERANDKRUG, who returned to form with a fair third over C&D last time. The novice Helnwein is second choice on his first run since wind surgery.
Cork bumper winner in 2003 (yielding-to-soft), FLEMENSFACE returned from long absence in November for new yard, much improved on second attempt in Punchestown maiden hurdles when getting up for second behind a clear-cut odds-on winner on heavy; stayer in the making, should relish this testing track and conditions.
Nigel Twiston-Davies has a powerful hand even if the 2022 Grimthorpe winner Undersupervision extends his run of underwhelming efforts. Most obviously, perhaps, the trainer has Weveallbeencaught who broke his chasing duck in such good style here five weeks ago and has shaped on plenty of occasions as if he should stay beyond 3m.
But there’s also THE KNIPHAND, another who’s won well here this winter, and this 7yo looks set for further improvement with today’s step back up in trip. Third on the list is last year’s runner-up Some Scope, who has 2m4f and Cheltenham as possible excuses for his latest outing. The novice White Rhino is a potential class act who also has to be taken very seriously.
In a competitive race of its type, preference is for NINTH LOCH who has not been with Harry Derham long and shapes as if he’ll be suited by today’s step up in distance. Major improvers Solar System, Eaton Anne, and Loverdose are certainly feared, as is the unexposed Taita Hills, but Nicky Henderson’s Go To War, who had an excuse last time and may still have untapped potential over this trip, could be the biggest threat of all.
