80′ Chelsea 4-0 Southampton
What is that from Ryan Manning? Will Smallbone’s outswinging corner falls at the substitute left-back’s feet outside the penalty area, maybe 30 yards out.
Instead of passing or crossing, the Irish defender tries a hilariously ambitious shot. It is awful contact and dribbles weakly along the ground to an opponent directly in front of him.
Rather than retreat, Manning jumps impatiently into a tackle, doesn’t get there and the ball is played around him, taking him out of the game.
He then only jogs aimlessly and listlessly towards his own goal rather than sprinting back and Southampton are left short with Cucurella in too much time and space to ping it into the corner.
Really disappointing from a substitute who is fresh onto the field.
