TEXAS – The capital city is now a top tech destination around the country. In a Coworking Cafe study that ranked top cities that pioneer tech and sustainability, Austin ranked No. 5.
The study was measured by factors like tech jobs advertised, number of coworking spaces and EV infrastructures. Austin fell slightly behind other cities like Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
Austin’s expanding AI sector was also a point mentioned, as many tech hubs are moving to Texas.
“City policies that encourage tech innovation and sustainability position Austin as a leader in smart city initiatives,” the study said.
Other Texas cities made the top 20 list, including Houston, at number 15, and Dallas, at number 16.
San Antonio ranked 34.
Austin even beat out Seattle – a known tech hub – due to data like its 328.15 median broadband download speeds (Mbps), 71 coworking spaces and 42 tech advertised jobs.
The study was conducted with a point system, giving coworking spaces and accessibility 10 points, number of AI companies 20 points, and so on. Austin had a total of 49.78 points.
The weight of points fell into three categories: smart infrastructure and connectivity (45% weight), green infrastructure (35% weight) and tech job market (20% weight).
Coworking Cafe took data from 377 cities across the country with a population minimum of 60,000.
