LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas graduate center Hunter Dickinson has been named to the John R. Wooden Award Top 20 Late Midseason Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced today.
This is the second-straight and third time Dickinson has been named to the Wooden Top 20 list. He was on the list in 2021 while at Michigan and in 2024 at Kansas, eventually earning Wooden All-American honors both years. Dickinson is vying to become the third Kansas men’s basketball player to earn the Wooden Award joining Danning Manning in 1988 and Frank Mason III in 2017.
On most every preseason and midseason All-America team, Dickinson leads Kansas in scoring at 16.5 points per game which ranks fourth in the Big 12. Dickinson also leads KU in rebounding at 9.6 boards per contest, which is second in the Big 12 and is 17th nationally. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week, the Alexandria, Virginia, native is second in the Big 12 in double-doubles (9), which is 27th nationally. Dickinson is second on the team with 33 blocked shots and is also second on the team with 24 steals.
Dickinson has amassed 2,588 points and 1,369 rebounds for his career and is the only active player in NCAA Division I with more than 2,500 points and 1,300 rebounds. His points are first on the NCAA DI active list as are his 1,047 field goals made. His 57 double-doubles are third and his career 9.1 rebounds per game are fifth. Dickinson graduated from Michigan and is pursuing a master’s degree at Kansas.
Selected by a panel of national college basketball experts, the list comprises 20 student-athletes who are frontrunners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball: the Wooden Award All-American Team and the Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player.
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2025 John R. Wooden Award Men’s Player of the Year. Players not selected for the late midseason list remain eligible for inclusion on the Wooden Award National Ballot. The National Ballot will feature 15 top players who have demonstrated to their universities that they meet or exceed the Wooden Award qualifications.
Wooden Award voters will be invited to rank 10 of the 15 players on the ballot in order of preference when voting opens during the NCAA Tournament. Voters will also consider performances in the tournament’s early rounds, players’ contributions to their teams and their character. The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced during the week of the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.
The winners and the All Americans of the 2025 John R. Wooden Award, presented by Principal, will be honored at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday, April 11, 2025.
