As for the Bills’ defense, they’ll have to prove the 35 points they allowed in Week 4 against the Ravens was a fluke. The Ravens certainly exposed the Bills’ defense that week, though they were without 46 percent of their preferred defensive contributors for most of that game. Linebackers Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard, along with nickel cornerback Taron Johnson all did not start in the game, but that also impacted three other positions. Cam Lewis, their usual dime backer on third downs, was pushed into the full-time nickel role. Dorian Williams, their usual third linebacker against heavy personnel, was forced into a full-time starting linebacker role. That paved the way for special teams player Ja’Marcus Ingram into the Lewis role, and Nicholas Morrow – who is no longer with the Bills – into Williams’ usual role. On top of all that, starting safety Taylor Rapp left the game in the second quarter with a concussion. All six of those pieces are back in their intended roles. The Bills are extremely aware of how last time went, how poorly they started, how much they hesitated against Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, and how they let it get away from them after a couple of good stops in the third quarter. They have much to prove in this rematch, even with all of their preferred players.
