Ranking the top 10 point guards in today’s NBA…

2024-25 Stats
Shai is a top-two MVP candidate right now for a few reasons. First of all, the Oklahoma City Thunder are barely ever losing, and he’s their best player. OKC was 33-6 entering Wednesday, just one game back of the NBA-best Cleveland Cavaliers (34-5).
Secondly, the scoring (31.4 points per game) is ridiculous. Gilgeous-Alexander is barely behind Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo (31.5 PPG entering Wednesday) for the distinction of being the league’s leading scorer.
Anytime you’re practically leading the league in scoring and your team also (nearly) has the best record … well, let’s just say not many people have ever pulled that off who aren’t named Michael Jordan.
By the way, Shai is putting up massive scoring numbers with great efficiency, at least from two-point territory (52.8 percent from the field — beyond awesome for a point guard). His 35.6 percent from three isn’t awful, and notably, he’s 89.5 percent from the line (important for the playoffs).
Then there’s the fact that Shai does it on both ends. He’s easily the most capable defender on this list, matching a willingness to guard with a six-foot-six frame, supreme athleticism, and length … scary.
Even when Luka returns to health, it’ll be hard to usurp SGA from the point guard throne — not with the way Shai is cooking this season.
It’s the two-way stuff that really makes Gilgeous-Alexander in a league of his own at the lead guard position, as if his numbers weren’t enough.
