BRUNSWICK, Ga. – After securing their first Sun Conference win of the season on Wednesday night, the College of Coastal Georgia women’s basketball team will look to carry the momentum into the weekend as they travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. to take on the Florida Memorial Lions.
The Mariners (8-5, 1-4 SUN) picked up their lone Sun Conference win of the 2023-24 season on January 13, 2024 in Miami Gardens as they will look to make it two straight against the Lions as well as their second straight Sun Conference victory of the 2024-25 season.
CCGA struggled shooting the ball in the victory over the Mighty Banyan Wednesday, shooting just 32 percent from the field and 20 percent from the three point line. Through 13 games, the Mariners have just the seventh best offense in the conference, averaging just over 60 points per game, but they are posting one of the best defenses in the conference, giving up just 54 points per game.
Morgon Webb and Tyler Butler continue to lead the Mariners offense, with Butler ranking second in the conference in field goal percentage. CCGA has also gotten quality minutes from Bre Fowler since returning from injury, as she led the offense off the bench against NCF scoring aa points on 4-8 shooting.
The Lions (12-1, 5-0 SUN) come in as one of the hottest teams in the country as they have won their last eight match ups, most recently a 76-51 victory over the Webber Warriors. FMU is scoring 20 points more than they are allowing on the season, leading to their impressive record. Kamesha Moore leads the offense, scoring 12.7 points per game and 15.0 PPG against conference opponents. FMU has shot no less than 35 percent from the field in a game this season and their lone loss came earlier this season in the form of a five point loss to Freed Hardeman.
