Wales’ top doctor, who oversaw the nation’s response to the Covid pandemic, has announced he will stand down after eight-and-a-half years.
As chief medical officer Sir Frank Atherton provided independent advice to the Welsh government during the pandemic.
Announcing his decision to stand down at the end of the month, he described his position as a privilege and a highlight of his career, having served Wales during an “incredibly challenging time”.
