The interviews are in full swing for a number of NFL teams as pink slips were given to head coaches this week. So is betting on who will be the next coach of the Bears, Jaguars, Jets, Patriots, Raiders and Saints.
National Football League team executives wanting to interview coaches on playoff teams will have to wait until the divisional round is completed for those teams eliminated from the playoffs, which follows this weekend’s wild card schedule of seven playoff games.
At that time, there will be even more odds adjustments than the current rapid market movement as teams interview coaching candidates.
Teams currently in seach of a new head coach and last 2 years records:
The process of interviewing candidates is extensive with the Jets and Bears reporting 14 candidates to be interviewed, including Pete Carroll today. The Jaguars have requested interviews with 10 candidates, and the Saints 10 so far. The Raiders and Patriots have 4-5 initial candidates.
Former NFL linebacker and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel (54-45 record) is a top target of a number of teams and has already interviewed with the Bears and Jets. They will reportedly make Vrabel a top target, along with the Patriots. The Saints are likely to interview Vrabel as well. The Raiders may get involved as minority owner Tom Brady played on the Patriots with Vrabel and won three Super Bowls together, but nothing has been scheduled yet for a visit with Vrabel in Las Vegas.
So many fans have opinions, and media members chime in on coverage with insiders reporting the daily news as it’s happening.
While sports betting is fueling more interest in the games for fans in nearly 40 states, leading U.S. sportsbooks are restricted in offering certain betting options including odds on coaches and their next team or who will be fired, etc. However, leading online sportsbook BetOnline in Panama has posted odds on coaches and which team they will become the next head coach.
Brand marketing manager Dave Mason of BetOnline is always busy adjusting the odds as Black Monday hits following the end of the NFL regular season.
“Annually, our ‘next head coach’ odds following Black Monday prove to be extremely popular among the media, fans and bettors,” Mason says. “We’re the first book to offer them (and usually the only book to offer them), and we’re constantly monitoring the news and updating the markets.”
“Our most popular coach market to date has been the New York Jets,” Mason adds. “The action has been very balanced among the favorites (Vrabel, Glenn, Flores, Ulbrich) so it’s been interesting to see who the bettors believe will be leading Gang Green next season.”
