Rakesh Chaudhary, a 36-year-old diamond broker, was cheated of Rs 6.5 lakhs by a Maharashtra-based company, Vineet Marketing and Technology Pvt Ltd, which he contracted for cryptocurrency trading software. Chaudhary gave the company his MetaMask wallet credentials for a trial, during which he stored 18.52 BNB (Rs 6.5 lakhs) in his wallet. However, when he attempted to access his wallet in March 2024, the cryptocurrency was missing. After contacting the company and receiving no answers, Chaudhary filed a complaint with the national cybercrime helpline, leading to the registration of an FIR by Surat Cybercrime police on January 7, 2025.
