In 2025, people are expected to take a more intentional approach to world exploration. This is driven by the cultural emphasis on extended family living, and intergenerational travel is expected to become a prominent trend in Hong Kong. The following year, we will witness a new travel approach with “SKI” vacations (Spending Kids’ Inheritance). This trend sees older relatives willing to help younger generations pay for their vacations, reconnecting with them and creating indelible memories.
Advancements in technology will also empower travellers. Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) will leverage AI tools like Booking.com’s AI Trip Planner to make informed decisions. Interestingly, over half (54 percent) are open to AI curating their trips entirely! Technology won’t just guide travellers; it will be used responsibly. Recognising the impact on destinations, 36 percent of Hong Kong travellers plan to avoid tagging locations on social media to prevent over-tourism.
Another major travel trend expected among Hong Kong travellers in 2025 includes being thriftier on trips abroad, with 58 percent of travellers planning the same for future trips. Additionally, 65 percent of travellers are expected to tighten their budgets to maximise their experiences. At the same time, they cruise through second-hand stores for wardrobes and other wallet-friendly and eco-conscious choices.
